BDA Benevolent Fund

Good morning,

I am writing to update you on the British Dental Association Benevolent Fund and tell you a little bit about what we do.  We are a charity that have been providing support for dental students, dentists and their dependents since 1883 and will therefore be celebrating our 140th Anniversary next year!.  Often people get in touch and seek help because of unexpected hardship, short or long term unemployment, illness or disability.  However, we do recognise that not all needs are financial and since January 2020, the BDA Benevolent Fund has offered extra help with health and wellbeing.  We have partnered up with Health Assured, allowing us to offer a complete support network, including expert advice and compassionate guidance 24/7.  This covers mental health support, including counselling, legal information, bereavement support and free advice on medical issues.  To find out more, please visit our website BDA Benevolent Fund support.

Since April 2020 we’ve developed eight free webinars for dental students, dentists and their families to watch. This is to help them learn about important issues such as wills, tackling debt and money management.  From the start of the pandemic we have had over 100% increase in applications.  If you would like more information regarding applications, please contact us.

The Charity also work in collaboration with other charities.  One example is the Dentists’ Health Support Trust.  They provide dental professionals with free support and advice on mental health, alcohol and drug issues.  This results in an 80% success rate in helping dentists overcome their problems, helping to ‘get their lives back on track’.

Here are a two testimonials from people we have helped recently:

“Words cannot express my gratitude for the help you’ve provided me during a very difficult time in my life.  Your financial aid helped me pay bills and buy food and has provided me with more help than I can put into words”.

“It’s very reassuring and comforting at least to say that you’ve listened to me and my situation. I felt a bit out of control last week, due to fear and I want to be able to provide for my family. I feel a bit reassured now.”

We would appreciate it if you could help spread awareness of the charity, particularly amongst those that may need our help.  To keep up to date with future projects, you can find details of how to sign up to our newsletter, follow us on Facebook or check out our website at https://www.bdabenevolentfund.org.uk/

If you have any queries, please do not hesitate to contact us,

Kind regards
